Guest Speaker was Dr. Elie Rekhess, Visiting Crown Chair in Middle East Studies, Northwestern University Professor Rekhess (Ph.D. Tel-Aviv University) is a leading historian of the contemporary Middle East. His fields of expertise include the Israeli-Arab conflict, Palestinian politics, Islamic resurgence, the Arab Minority in Israel and Jewish-Arab relations.  He was born in Haifa (Mt. Carmel) and raised in Israel and Italy. He is a major in the IDF Reserves, and a veteran of the 1973 Yom Kippur war.  He authored and edited more than 13 books related to his fields of interest. The most recent book entitled: Muslim Minorities in Non-Muslim Majority States (2011).  He served as a Strategic Advisor to Prime Minister Ehud Barak and as an Advisor to the Ministerial Committee on the Arabs in Israel.

 

Help make a difference throughout the year ...


• Mitzvah Day:
Mitzvah Day is held in the spring and includes 8-10 separate activities that appeal to all ages and abilities. Members use their talents to knit, plant, sing, clean, eat, build, sort, read, and cook to benefit others.
 
• Monthly collections in entrance of school such as school supplies, books or toiletries to benefit the needy in our community and beyond.
 
• Faith in Action: Founded by B’nai Torah, Faith in Action brings together volunteers to help at-risk residents of Southeast Lake County enjoy a better quality of life and maintain their independence longer.
 
• Caring Committee:  Helping members in during difficult times in their life.
 
• Feed the Homeless: Several times a year we visit the PADS Crisis Shelter in Waukegan.We bring over lunches and provide and serve dinner to families that are there seeking immediate emergency shelter and crisis services.
