Our Guiding Principles

Six Core Values for our B’nai Torah Spiritual Community

The future of B’nai Torah is supported by a vision rooted in holiness. As co-partners with God in the ongoing act of creation, we are responsible to help make the world a better place, through acts of healing, lovingkindness, social responsibility and justice. These are the values which sustain us as the dynamic, spiritual community B’nai Torah is and continues to be. They are:

Community

B’nai Torah is a community that is:

Supportive, comforting, and full of joy

A spiritual home where members gather together and add meaning to their lives

Worship and Spirituality

We understand that God calls us to a higher purpose. We reach toward it through:

Prayer and worship

Spiritual programming

Learning for all Ages

B’nai Torah is a center of lifelong learning in which Torah is our living document of faith.

Sacred texts are conveyed in ways relevant to our lives.

Learning takes place in a stimulating, inspiring, age- appropriate environment.

Social Responsibility and Justice

We are mutually responsible for the world God created.

We partner with God to repair a world often in need of healing.

We strive to be more than better Jews, but also better human beings.

We join other faith-based and community organizations as we reach out to address injustice beyond our community.

Israel and the Jewish People

We have an unbreakable relationship with the Jewish people in Israel and all Jewish communities throughout the world.

We are committed to maintaining a strong connection with the Jewish people which strengthens our identity as Jews.

Interfaith Outreach

We engage in serious dialogue with other faith-based, sacred communities.
